Obituary

Robert K. Snyder, 77, of O'Fallon, Ill., born December 7, 1944 in Wilmington, Del., passed away October 8, 2022.

Bob grew up in Wilmington, and graduated from De La Warr High School where he played baseball, football, and tuba in the marching band. He attended University of Utah, earning his degree in Economics, and his MBA. While attending college, he (a Sigma Alpha Epsilon) met his future wife, Anita Allen (an Alpha Phi) at a roller skating exchange. In 1967, Bob joined the Air Force, thus beginning a lengthy military career, retiring from Scott AFB in 1993 at the rank of Colonel. He was a Communications Computer Systems officer, serving 15 of his 26 years overseas. Col. Snyder was awarded the Legion of Merit and the Meritorious Service Medal with four devices, and served on the Military Advisory Group (MAG) at the US Embassy in Tehran from 1977-79. He enjoyed his time in the military, especially while stationed in Europe. After his military retirement, he attempted his dream job in wine sales, but soon determined he was better suited to enjoying his product instead of selling it. He further worked for Tri-Cor defense contractor until his ultimate retirement in 2013.

He enjoyed years of international traveling, including visiting his children and their families at their own respective military bases. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in O'Fallon, where he sang in the choir and had served as President of the congregation. Bob loved socializing and hosting his bridge and dining club groups. He shared a passion for the arts and sciences with Anita, and together they enjoyed the Fabulous Fox, the St. Louis Symphony, and the St. Louis Art and Science Museums. When Bob's children, Rob and Lisa, were students at OTHS and part of the Marching Panthers, Bob served as Band Booster president. He was an avid fan of the Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies.

He was preceded in death by his parents Richard and Zelma, nee Zemond, Snyder; his brother Forrest Snyder, and sister Carol (Bernie) Hessler.

Surviving are his wife Anita Snyder of O'Fallon, Ill., son LTC Rob (Deb) Snyder, US Army, of Ashburn, Va., daughter Lisa (Lt Col Jonathon, USMC) Frerichs of Long Beach, N.Y.; grandchildren Ivy and Jack Snyder, and Wesley, Zachary and Emmy Frerichs; brother Richard (Nancy) Snyder of Elkton, Md., and sister-in-law Gennie Snyder of Dagsboro, Del.
