IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Robert Stroh,
Sr.
May 13, 1926 – January 26, 2018
Robert John Stroh, Sr., age 91, of O'Fallon, Ill., born May 13, 1926 in Belleville., passed away January 26, 2018 at home with his family at his side.
Bob grew up in Belleville, Ill., and joined the Navy at age 18, serving during World War II. Upon returning from the War, he began his 37-year career with the United States Postal Service, serving as Postmaster at Scott AFB, and Postal Supervisor at Belleville. His second career, one he loved, was working as Groundsman at Tamarack Golf Course in Shiloh for the next 25 years. Bob enjoyed fishing, bowling, shuffleboard, crosswords, wordfinds, lottery scratchers and a day at the casino. He spent time in his garden, growing peppers and tomatoes. He scored a hole-in-one on Hole #3 at Tamarack Golf Course. Bob was a member of the American Legion Post 137 and VFW Post 805.
Bob was first and foremost a family man. He was never happier or more at home than he was in his man-cave garage or his own back yard. Home was truly his happy place. His other favorites were Tamarack and his love for golf, the Legion to catch up on current events, and the KC Hall on Tuesdays and drawing night, which were a must. For those of us blessed to have Bob in our lives, never was there a more kind nor calm-hearted soul. In all his years one could truly say he never raised his voice to anyone, he got along with everyone, and he carried a permanent smile on his face. He was the epitome of a man that lived life content and with a genuinely happy heart.
He was preceded in death by his parents Alex and Kathryn, nee Lambert, Stroh; his first wife Carol J., nee Christman, Stroh; and his brothers Clemens and Donald.
Surviving are his wife Lois, nee Taff, Stroh, whom he married June 21, 1952; his sons Robert (Lynn) Stroh, Jr., and Paul (Gina) Stroh, all of O'Fallon; grandchildren Robert III (Maureen Wilkerson/Stroh), Adam, Alex (Stephanie), Julie, and John; great-grandchildren Blake and Devin; and many loving nieces, nephews, and in-laws.
Special thanks to Heartland Hospice's Nurse Shawna, and grandson Adam for his daily care of his grandpa.
Memorial donations are suggested to Heartland Hospice, and will be accepted at the funeral home.
