Robert S. Woitzel, age 91, of O'Fallon, Ill., formerly of Toledo, Ohio, born Feb. 12, 1920 in Toledo, Ohio, passed away March 23, 2011 at Rosewood Care Center, Swansea, Ill.

Bob was a graduate of Libbey High School, Toledo. He entered the Army in 1942 and served in the 102nd Infantry Division in the European theater during World War II. He married his wife, Zelda Mae, on December 23, 1943. Bob retired from a long career with Ohio Bell Telephone Company as a repairman, PBX installer, and in management and lived most of his life in Toledo, moving to O'Fallon 5 years ago. He was a lifelong Lutheran and recently a member of Faith Lutheran Church in O'Fallon. Bob was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, American Legion, Masons, Shriners International (Zenobia Temple), and the Scottish Rite.


He was preceded in death by his parents, William F. and Ida Augusta, nee Marohn, Woitzel; and brothers Leroy and Albert.

He is survived by his wife Zelda Mae, nee Schneider, Woitzel, of O'Fallon; his daughter Paulette (Don) Schafer of O'Fallon; grandsons, Andrew (Jessica) Schafer of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Eric (Megan) Schafer of Ramstein AB, Germany; two great grandsons Samuel and Memphis, and a great-granddaughter Claire Annabel.

Visitation: Friends may call from 10:00 am – 11:00 am, Friday, April 15, 2011 at Faith Lutheran Church, 520 East US Highway 50, O'Fallon, Illinois.

Funeral: Memorial Service will begin at 11:00 am, Friday, April 15, 2011 at the church, with Pastors Robert Downs and Freda Snyder officiating. A luncheon will be served at the church immediately following the service.

Burial with military honors will follow at 2:00 pm at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, Mo.
