Obituary

Lt. Col. Ronald L. Bracy, USAF (Ret), age 76, passed away on Wednesday, August 11, 2021 at Memorial Hospital, Belleville, Illinois. He was born December 3, 1944, in Fort Monmouth, New Jersey.

Lt. Col. Bracy is survived by his wife of 55 years, Judith Bracy; daughter Tonya Wood and husband David; daughter in law Tina Bracy; grandchildren Thaddeus Wood, Taylor Wood, Timothy Wood, Tess Bracy and Tate Bracy; sister Liz Whitehead, as well as great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces, and a lifetime of friends, colleagues and former students.

He was preceded in death by his son Capt. Todd R. Bracy, USAF; and his parents, Richard and Nora Bracy.

After graduating from Batesville High School, Lt. Col. Bracy attended the United States Air Force Academy, graduating in 1966. Lt. Col. Bracy served in the Vietnam War flying 101 missions over the North in the RF-4C from 1968-1969 and received the Distinguished Flying Cross.   After leaving active-duty service Lt. Col. Bracy remained in the Air Force Reserves and Air National Guard and was assigned to the Pentagon on September 11, 2001, after which he retired from all military service in 2002.  He received his Masters and PhD from Southwestern Theological Seminary, pastored churches in Texas, Illinois, Montana and Missouri and taught classes ranging from 6 th grade to the graduate level. Lt. Col. Bracy loved teaching and his students; since moving to San Antonio, he taught at the San Antonio Christian School, the Geneva School of Boerne and most recently at The Christian School at Castle Hills.

Lt. Col. Bracy loved to read and write and was a published author of the book Walk On: From the Valley of Despair to the Mountaintop of Praise .  He enjoyed golfing, working in his yard, walking his dog, and spending time with his family.  He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.  He will be missed by all who knew him.

Lt. Col. Bracy will be laid to rest at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery at 2:00 p.m.  For those who cannot attend, there will be a livestream of his service at Parkhills Baptist Church.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to:  The Christian School at Castle Hills at https://castlehills.school/donate/ .
