Obituary

Ronald J. "Coog" Hillen, age 75, lifelong resident of O'Fallon, Ill., born September 26, 1938 in O'Fallon, died Thursday morning, April 10, 2014 at Cedar Ridge Health Care Center, Lebanon, with his children Angie and Darrin at his side.

Ron grew up in O'Fallon and graduated from OTHS in 1956. He served in the US Army military police in the 1960's. He worked as a press operator at Illinois Specialty in O'Fallon and later as a custodian in O'Fallon District 90, retiring in 2000. He coached his son's youth sports and was an avid softball player in church and community leagues. He was a member of O'Fallon Boosters and life member and 3rd degree with Knights of Columbus Council 4239. Ron was a lifelong member of St. Clare parish.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife MaryLee, nee Kaiman, Hillen, whom he married June 11, 1966 in Old Monroe, Missouri, and who died September 4, 2011; his parents Harry "Hap" and Mildred, nee Campbell, Hillen; his brother Robert Hillen, his sister Rose Marie Heil, and his parents-in-law Leo and Bernadine, nee Dreisewerd, Kaiman.

Surviving are his two children Angela (Donald) Karpel of Mascoutah; and Darrin (Beverly Stewart) Hillen, of O'Fallon; two grandchildren Ryan and Brittany Karpel; and many nieces and nephews. Also surviving are his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Patricia Hillen, James (Karen) Kaiman of Chesterfield, Mo., Robert (Katherine) Kaiman of Old Monroe, Mo., and Jean (Joseph) Hogan of Old Monroe, Mo.

Memorial donations are kindly suggested to St. Clare Catholic Church or to O'Fallon Knights of Columbus Council 4239 General Assistance Fund.

Visitation: Friends may call from 4:00 – 9:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at St. Clare Catholic Church. The Rosary will be recited at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Visitation will continue at 9:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 16, 2014, at St. Clare Catholic Church.

Visitation and Funeral Services will all take place at St. Clare Catholic Church, 1411 Cross Street, Shiloh, IL 62269

Funeral Service: Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at St. Clare Catholic Church, Shiloh, with Rev. James Deiters presiding. Burial with military honors will follow at Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Shiloh.
