Rose Helen Shevchik, nee Ciano, age 68, of Troy, Illinois, born June 17, 1945 in Newark, New Jersey, passed away Saturday, November 2, 2013 at Anderson Hospital, Maryville, Illinois.
Prior to moving to Troy in 1995, Rose and her family had relocated often due to her husband's work assignments. She was a Madison County Election Judge for several years. Rose's love for her children was often shown by her care and concern for them. She appreciated the simple things in life-her family, good music and good movies, and was considered by some to be a pop-culture junkie.
Mrs. Shevchik was preceded in death by her husband, John Dennis Shevchik, who passed away October 6, 2002; her parents John and Helen, nee Hutchinson, Ciano; and her sister Joan Baker.
Surviving are her two children Wendy (Adron) Buske and John M. Shevchik, all of O'Fallon; and her sister Mary Smeltzer of Kearny, New Jersey.
Because of Rose's affection for four-legged creatures, memorial donations are suggested to Spencer Pet Rescue of O'Fallon or Stray Rescue of St. Louis, and will be accepted at the funeral home.
Visitation: Friends may call from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 6, 2013 at Wolfersberger Funeral Home, 102 W. Washington St., O'Fallon.
Procession will depart the funeral home at 12:00 p.m., Thursday, November 7, 2013 for Graveside Services at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, Missouri.
