Sandra A. Fergus, 58, of O’Fallon, Ill., passed away on April 30, 2026, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Mo., following a sudden illness. Known to many as Sandy, she was born September 7, 1967, in Honolulu, Hawaii, the third of five children of Lawrence and Annabelle (Appell) Fergus. Raised primarily in O’Fallon in an Air Force family, Sandy attended St. Clare Grade School and graduated from O’Fallon Township High School in 1985. She worked for a time at the TWA/American Airlines reservations desk before continuing her education. Sandy earned degrees in Chemical Engineering and Environmental Engineering from Washington University in St. Louis, where she excelled academically. After graduation, she began a long and dedicated career at Washington University, working in Bioinformatics within the Department of Radiation Oncology.
Sandy was a beloved aunt who delighted in adventurous cooking and baking—especially when sharing the kitchen with her nieces and nephews. Loved deeply by her siblings, she was proudly known as the “crazy sister”: outgoing, opinionated, and wonderfully boisterous, with a laugh and spirit that filled the room. She will be missed more than words can say. Sandy was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include her siblings and their families: Lee A. (Leo) Milo and children, Aaron Wilson (son of Mark Wilson) and great niece Barbara Annabelle and great-great niece/nephew on the way, and great-nephew Alan N.; and Leo L. Milo, Timothy Patrick (Gigi) Fergus and their children Grant, Zachary (Mandy) and great niece Odessa , Mercedes (fiancé Brian McDonald), and Portia; Gail A. (Jeffry) Graves and their children, Harley (Mackenzie) and Kyle; and Thomas Patrick (Liliana) Fergus and their children Brandon, Tylor (Jenna) and great-great niece/nephew on the way, Sebastian, Grace Annabelle, and Thomas.
