Sharon M. Joiner, nee Meyer, age 69, of O'Fallon, born October 6, 1945, passed away on December 19, 2014 at her home.
A graduate of SIUE, Ms. Joiner was a long-time English teacher at East St. Louis Senior High School in District 189. She also taught at the SIUE Charter School and in the Upward Bound program for many years. She had a positive impact on thousands of students during her career. When she was not grading papers, she enjoyed bowling, playing tennis, and playing the piano. She spent countless hours watching her children's sporting events and performances. After retirement, she enjoyed reading, watching movies, and supporting her grandchildren. Although she left the classroom, she never stopped teaching important life lessons.
She was preceded in death by her parents Henry and Donna, nee Kimmie, Meyer; her brother Brian Meyer, and her sister Saundra Monroe.
Surviving are her children Jessica (David) Hasemann of O'Fallon, Michael (Peggy) Joiner of McDonough, Ga., and Mark Joiner of Surprise, Ariz.; her much-loved grandchildren Megan and Kevin Hasemann, Sarah and Andrew Joiner, and Kylee Joiner; her sister Pamela Lauber, her brothers Ronald and Kevin Meyer; and her former husband Jesse Joiner.

A private family gathering will be held to celebrate her life.
