Shirley Mae Cope, nee Brown, age 91, of O'Fallon, formerly of Highland Park, Ill., born January 28, 1924 in Highland Park, Ill., passed away Friday afternoon, January 15, 2016 at Eden Village in Glen Carbon, Illinois.
Shirley was raised in Highland Park, Ill., and attended Lincoln School through 8th grade and graduated from Highland Park High School, class of '42. She was very active in their reunion committees and was especially helpful in planning their 50th class reunion.
She was fortunate to meet her husband in her hometown and build a house next door to her childhood home, moving to O'Fallon seven years ago. Shirley worked as a medical receptionist at a doctor's office. She and her husband Bill had great times golfing and travelling with their group of friends known as the "Lucky Club." She enjoyed knitting and sharing her homemade items with family and friends. Shirley lived a full life, and could brighten up any room with her smile and laughter.
She was preceded in death by her parents William and Violet, nee Hutchinson, Brown; her brothers Robert and Douglas Brown, and her sister Gladys Hammond.
Surviving are her husband of 64 years William B. Cope of O'Fallon, Ill.; her daughters Jill (Bob) Wicke of O'Fallon, Ill., and Lynne (Mark) Hennessey of San Juan Capistrano, Calif.; her grandchildren Scott (Maria) Wicke, Carrie (Patrick) Lechtenberger, and Colton (Hillary) Klein; and seven great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial donations are suggested to Alzheimer's Association.
Visitation: The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:30 pm, Saturday, January 23, 2016 at O'Fallon First United Methodist Church, 504 E Highway 50, O'Fallon, Ill.
Funeral: Memorial Service will begin at 2:30 pm, Saturday, January 23, 2016, at the church with Pastor Ron Dickinson officiating.
