Obituary

Teresa "Kay" Matheis, nee Kinkade, age 73, of O'Fallon, Ill., born February 20, 1949 in Tuscola, Ill., passed on to continue her journey to Eternal Life, after a long, hard-fought battle with cancer on Tuesday, December 6, 2022 at Barnes Jewish Hospital, St. Louis, Mo. She was surrounded by her loving family.

Kay's family was native to Lovington, Ill., but she grew up mostly in Orange County, Calif., graduating from Bolsa Grande High School in Garden Grove. While back at the homestead in Illinois, she met her future husband Phil, who was TDY at nearby Chanute Air Force Base. They married May 25, 1975 and enjoyed many years of fun and adventure together. As a military wife, Kay supported Phil and they raised three children while maintaining her own career as a civil servant, retiring in 2009 when she was forced to focus more on her health. Kay beat the odds, recognizing God as her Great Physician, beating cancer for many years. She was a quick wit with a great sense of humor, with a good and honest heart. She was a loving and devoted caregiver to her parents Charles and June, nee Cox, Kinkade who preceded her in death.

Surviving are her husband Philip V. Matheis of O'Fallon; children Lisa Lynn Matheis of Pensacola, Fla., Charles "Scott" (Jodie) Matheis of New Baden, Ill., Brandi Renea Matheis-Earnest of O'Fallon; grandchildren Ashley (Jillian, nee Stull) Matheis, Taylor (Austin) Khalili, Austin, Tyler, Jacob, Andrew and Grant Matheis, and Rylan Earnest; step-great grandchildren Samantha and Abbigail Matheis and Benjamin Murphy; siblings Charles Kinkade, Lawrence (Joyce) Kinkade, Gary Kinkade, Marilyn (Larry) Curry, and David (Jennifer) Kinkade.

The Matheis family is grateful to the doctors and staff at BJC Hospital and Siteman Cancer Center for their dedication and compassion shown to Kay. Memorial donations are suggested to Siteman Cancer Center.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 pm, Saturday, December 10, 2022 at Wolfersberger Funeral Home, O'Fallon, followed by a Funeral Service to begin at 4 pm, with Rev. Mel Workman officiating.

Monday, December 12, 2022 at 8:30 am, the funeral procession will depart Wolfersberger Funeral Home for a graveside service to begin at 9:15 am, at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, Mo.
