Obituary

CMSgt. Thomas Mason, USAF (retired), age 76, born April 10, 1938 in Maple Shade, N.J., passed away Monday, June 30, 2014, at Cedarhurst of Shiloh, surrounded by his children.

Tom was an active member at Faith Family Church in Shiloh. He served over 21 years in the US Air Force, primarily in communications management and programming, retiring in 1981. For his service, he was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal and the Air Force Commendation Medal with two oak leaf clusters, among many other citations and ribbons. He enjoyed playing, watching, and coaching all sports. He had a special passion for children and athletics, eagerly coaching and encouraging physical fitness. He enjoyed gardening and yard work. Tom always extended a hand of friendship, as he was a thoughtful and considerate man who was generous with his time.


He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary E., nee DeLude, Mason, granddaughter Jennifer Stergulz, and parents William R. and Margaret, nee Kuntz, Mason; brothers Ronald, Robert, James and William Mason.

Surviving are his beloved children, who feel blessed to have grown up in this household, Deborah (Joseph) Dructor of Smithton, Ill., Kristie Howard of Jacksonville, Fla., Bryan (Karen) Mason of O'Fallon, and Jill (Brandon) Lott of Mascoutah; grandchildren Nick Stergulz, Whitney Nelson, Riley Mason, Sarah Mason, Adam Mason, Peyton Lott and Logan Lott; and one great-grandson Bradley Pittman.


Also surviving are his siblings Edward Mason, Margaret Hedsdrom, Shirley P. Don, Dorothy Battaglia, and John Mason.

Memorial donations in memory of Tom Mason are suggested to Lewy Body Dementia Assoc., (ww.lbda.org) and will be accepted at the funeral home.

Visitation: Friends may call from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm, Monday, July 7, 2014, at Wolfersberger Funeral Home, 102 W. Washington St., O'Fallon, Ill.

Funeral: Memorial Service will begin at 1:00 pm, Monday, July 7, 2014, with Pastor Gary Hinrichs officiating. Graveside committal services, with military honors, will follow at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.
