Obituary

Virginia Frances Curtis, nee Voellinger, age 98, of O'Fallon, formerly of Fairview Heights, Ill., born December 7, 1919 in East St. Louis, Ill., one of 12 children of George and Mary, nee Reiniger, Voellinger, died April 15, 2018, with her family at her side.

Virginia was a long-time member of St. Albert's Catholic Church before moving to O'Fallon, at which time she began attending St. Nicholas Catholic Church. She was very active and lived a full, energetic life, able to maintain her independence until just recently. She enjoyed playing Bingo on Monday mornings at the Senior Center in Fairview Heights and making her Tuesday trip with friends to the River City Casino. Virginia worked for 42 years for Tums in St. Louis. She was an active member of AARP Chapter 3643 of Fairview Heights. Of all her joys, her favorite was spending time with her family, especially the great-grandchildren who loved their "Gigi" very much.

She was preceded in death by her husband Henry "Hank" Frank Curtis, and all of her siblings: John (Mary) Voellinger, Herman (Betty) Voellinger, Elmer (Wanda) Voellinger, Robert (Martha) Voellinger, Clarence "Bud" (Lois) Voellinger, Lucille (Willis) Konegni, Dorothy (Harold) Heins, Vera (Bud) Shelledy, and infants Claritta, Claretta, and Mary Voellinger.

She is survived by her daughter Debbie (Terry) Korte of O'Fallon, Ill. and her granddaughter Jennifer (Justin) Rains of Mascoutah, Ill. She was GiGi to her four precious great-grandchildren, Taylor, Colby, Logan, and Caden; they brightened her world. She was "second" Mom to her step-daughter Barbara (Michael) Bergmire of Ballwin, Mo. and step-daughter Carol Curtis of Bonne Terre, Mo., and her step-grandchildren Cherie (Steve) Straub and Shawn (Judy) Bunyard. Also survived by many step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Memorials can be made to St. Nicholas Catholic Church or to Alzheimer's Association.
