Virginia Lee Woods, nee Fitch,  passed away on Thursday, January 12, 2017 at home surrounded by her family, having attained the age of 85 years, 11 months, and 30 days.

Born on January 13, 1931 in East St. Louis, Ill., she was the daughter of Lewis H. and Gladys I. Fitch, nee Norman.  She was united in marriage to Walter J. Woods on September 23, 1950 at St. Clare Rectory in O'Fallon, Ill.

Virginia was the former owner and operator of Fitch Florist in O'Fallon.  She also worked for many years at Dillard's in Fairview Heights as a sales associate. Virginia was member of St. Clare of Assisi Catholic Church in O'Fallon.  Prior to her illness, Virginia was active in the Altar Angel ministry at St. Clare.

Virginia was a beautiful woman inside and out.  She was a wonderful and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, always putting other's needs before her own.  Our Mother and our Nana will be remembered for many things, but especially for her kind, gentle nature and her strong faith in God and devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her brother Norman L. Fitch, and an infant brother who died at birth.

Surviving are her beloved husband of 66 years, Walter J. Woods and children, Keith (Cynthia) Woods, Janet (Gregory) Butler, Diane (William) Heizer, Gregg (Jodi) Woods, Neill (Pam) Woods; her grandchildren, Whitney (Bryan) Kossow, Kristen (Benjamin) Smallwood, Lauren (Joshua) Clark, Christopher (Michelle) Heizer, Jason (Kelly) Heizer, Sarah Heizer, Emily (Anthony) Kimutis, Alexander Woods, Zachary Woods, Hannah Woods, Jacob Edwards; her great-grandchildren, Taylor and Nicholas Heizer, Brooke and Carson Heizer, Baylee and London Clark, Elizabeth Smallwood, Emery Frieden and her beloved pets, Jacob and Abigail. Virginia is also survived by her sister, Carole Deibert and sister-in-law, Linda Fitch, along with many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions in Virginia's name be directed to St. Clare Catholic Church Building Fund or Hospice of Southern Illinois.

Visitaion: The family will receive friends from 4:00 – 8:00 pm, Sunday, January 15, 2017 at St. Clare of Assisi Roman Catholic Church, 1411 Cross St., Shiloh, and from 9:00 – 9:45 am, Monday, at the church.

Funeral: Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am, Monday, January 16, 2017, at the church, with Rev. James Deiters presiding. Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Shiloh, Ill.
