Obituary

Wayne L. Charters, CTAC, US Navy, retired, age 67, born November 18, 1952 in Stockton, Calif., died Tuesday evening, March 10, 2020 at Care Center of Center Grove in Edwardsville, Ill.

Wayne enlisted in the Navy as a young man and served as a Cryptologic Technician Administrator. He met his future wife Angela, a fellow sailor, while they were both stationed at Adak Naval Base in the Aleutian Islands. He served in Taiwan and the Philippines, then at Treasure Island, Calif., and Mildenhall RAF, England with Angela. Wayne was a true patriot and was proud of his military service. He retired  as Chief Petty Officer in 1991 from the Naval Security Group Command in Groton, Conn. He and his family returned to Angela's home area in St. Louis where he worked for a short time for the St. Louis County Health Department. He was soon hired by the USPS where he worked as a postal station manager at various St. Louis area post offices, where Wayne found great satisfaction in his work.

He was preceded in death by his father William F. Charters, his mother Gertrude E. Quenzer, and his favorite cat Bear.

Surviving are his wife Angela, nee Brooks, whom he married December 20, 1978; his daughter Dominique (Ashlea) Dick, his son William Charters, his mother-in-law and friend Anita Brooks, and his cats Harley, Pudgy, and Sweetie.

He was laid to rest at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, Mo.
