Wayne John Haukapp, age 61, of O'Fallon, born April 14, 1947 in Highland, Ill. to Robert and Rita, nee Siegel, Haukapp, passed away Wednesday morning, March 18, 2009.
Wayne's family moved to O'Fallon when he was a small boy; he graduated from Althoff Catholic High School and entered the US Army soon after graduation. He was a veteran of the Vietnam Conflict. Wayne married Marilyn G. Steinkoenig of Highland on February 22, 1968. Mr. Haukapp worked as an over-the-road and local truck driver for many years. In the late 1980s, Wayne assumed the Manager position at the American Legion Fischer Solis Post 137 in O'Fallon. Under his leadership, Post 137 was instrumental in providing support to various local charities and organizations. He was awarded a citizenship award by the O'Fallon Police Department for his generosity and support of the DARE Program in O'Fallon. He was a member of the Sgt. Charles A. Fricke VFW Post 805 in O'Fallon and an honorary member of the O'Fallon Underwater Search and Rescue Team (OUSART). Wayne loved his family greatly and will be dearly missed.
He was preceded in death by his father Robert Haukapp and sister Donna Haukapp.
He is survived by his wife Marilyn G. Haukapp of O'Fallon, children Michael (Susan) Haukapp of Roswell, Geo., and Cynthia Cremeens of O'Fallon, mother Rita Haukapp, of O'Fallon; sisters Diane (Richard) Williams of Trenton; Darlene (Michael) Mayden of O'Fallon; and brother Russell (Marilyn) Haukapp of St. Jacob; and three grandchildren Jacqueline E. Welker, Justin R. Welker, and Harley Abigail Haukapp.
Memorials in honor of Mr. Haukapp are requested to the American Cancer Society and will be accepted at the funeral home. Condolences may be extended to the family by clicking the tab above.
Visitation: Friends may call from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Friday, March 20, 2009 at Wolfersberger Funeral Home, 102 W. Washington St., O'Fallon.
Funeral: Funeral Procession will depart the funeral home at 9:45 am, for a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial, Saturday, March 21, 2009 at St. Clare of Assisi Catholic Church with Rev. William Hitpas presiding. Interment will follow at Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Shiloh, with military honors.
