Wendy Ann McDonnell, nee Nyborg, age 67, of O'Fallon, Illinois, was born August 22, 1958, in Flushing, New York. She passed away Thursday evening, October 9, 2025, at her home, after a valiant battle with cancer.
Wendy grew up in Wallingford, Pennsylvania, and graduated from Nether Providence High School. She earned her BS degree in Business Administration from Bloomsburg State College, in Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania, in 1980.
She married James F. McDonnell on Boracay Island, Philippines, in 1983. Over the years, during Jim's military service, she worked at various churches as a church secretary and occasionally worked as a substitute teacher. Her family and church were very important to her. Wendy had a bright smile, always kind, thoughtful, and cheerful, and was a loving wife, mom, sister, daughter, aunt, cousin, and Grammy.
She was preceded in death by her parents William Albert and Ruth May, nee Clemments, Nyborg.
Survivors include her husband Jim of O'Fallon, Illinois; son Brendan J. (Aubree J. Hudson) McDonnell of Portland, Oregon; daughter Amanda R. (Eric J. Qiu) McDonnell and grandson Robin E. Qiu of Lorton, Virginia; and her siblings Jim, Tina (Jim) Fowler, Rich (Lesley), and Tom (Terri).
Memorial donations in memory of Wendy are suggested to Faith Lutheran Church and First Fruits of Zion .
The family will receive friends from 9 – 11 am, Monday, October 20, 2025, at Faith Lutheran Church, 520 E. Highway 50, O'Fallon, Illinois. Memorial Service will begin at 11 am, with Pastor Candice Wassell officiating.Live-stream link: https://youtube.com/live/neq6clbKRto?feature=share
