Obituary

William Ellsworth McGeehon, age 87, was born in O'Fallon, Ill., on November 7, 1927, and passed away on October 24, 2015 at Memorial Hospital, Belleville, Ill., following a brief illness.

Bill always stood out in a crowd. If his 6'7'' stature didn't grab your attention, then his beautiful silver hair, kind blue eyes and dapper attire were sure to alert you that someone special was in the room. After nearly 40 years of service at Auffenberg Ford, primarily as Business Manager for the Belleville office, Bill was that guy who knew someone no matter where he went. Everyone was a friend, and he always had a kind word, remembered something about their family, or had a laugh to share about some past adventure. He broadened his community of friends after joining St. Nicholas Church in O'Fallon where he was an active parishioner for many years. At St. Nicholas he participated in Yesterdays' Kids, and served a term as president of the organization.

Throughout his life, Bill believed in working hard, staying active, and being involved. Whether delivering leadership training in the Army in his early years, taking great pride in running a tight ship at Auffenberg during the peak of his career, exploring golf courses throughout the bi-state area as an avid player, or holding various leadership council positions at the retirement communities where he lived, Bill poured his energy, intelligence and commitment into everything he did. He was also proud to hold the title of 3rd degree of Knights of Columbus council 4239, and was a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians St. Clair County Council.

Bill was preceded in death by his first wife Betty McGeehon, his second wife Juanita "June" McGeehon (mother to David and Beth), and his parents Ellsworth William and Karolene Sophie, nee Schwarz, McGeehon.

Surviving are his much-loved children David Scott (Tracey) Bricker of St. Charles, Ill. and Elizabeth Marie (Shawn Reifsteck) Kuenstler of San Francisco, Calif.; grandchildren Jacob and Mitchell Bricker, children of David and Tracey; and Carill, Sherri and William Reifsteck, and Shelly Davie, children of Beth and Shawn; and great-grandchild, Olivia. Bill is also survived by his companion and recent wife, Josie Zollner, and her family.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Nicholas Catholic Church of O'Fallon, and the June and Bill McGeehon Memorial Scholarship Fund at Althoff High School.
