Obituary

William Arthur McIntosh, age 77, of O'Fallon, Ill., born September 6, 1938 in Farmington, Iowa, passed away Thursday afternoon, July 28, 2016 at his home.

Bill grew up in Farmington, Iowa, and enlisted in the Navy at age 17 and served as a Navy medic with the Marine Corps. He later transferred to the Air Force and served as a medical technician, retiring in 1976. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War. While stationed at Scott AFB in 1960, working at the base hospital, he met his future bride, Alice, a fellow medical technician. They soon married, travelled many places with the military, including Alaska and Hawaii, and settled in O'Fallon, where they raised their five children. He earned his degree in Horticulture and worked in Civil Engineering as a landscaper at Scott AFB for many years until his retirement.

Bill was proud of his Scottish heritage and was active with Clan McIntosh for many years. He was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Yesterday's Kids, and Knights of Columbus Council 4239. Bill was a Master Gardener and award-winning cultivator of African Violets. He was a member of Enterprise Grange and was the caretaker of St. Joseph Keppler's Cemetery for many years. When his boys were young, he was an active leader and strong supporter of Boy Scouts.

He was preceded in death by his parents Robley Dree McIntosh and Netha, nee McBride, McIntosh; his son David Brian McIntosh; and his sister Lola Liebelt.

Surviving are his beloved wife of 55 years Alice Louise, nee Wehrmann, McIntosh of O'Fallon, whom he married October 1, 1960; his children Bill (Dawn) McIntosh of Larkspur, Colo., Barbara (Cris) Armstrong of O'Fallon, Robley (Wendy) McIntosh of O'Fallon, and Jonathan (Jessica) McIntosh of Fenton, Mo.; his much-loved 15 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.

Memorial donations are suggested to either St. Vincent de Paul, Knights of Columbus, O'Fallon Community Food Pantry, or St. Nicholas Church.

Visitation: The family will receive friends from 4:00 – 8:00 pm, Sunday, July 31, at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, 625 St. Nicholas Dr., O'Fallon, and from 9:00 – 9:45 am, Monday, August 1, 2016 at the church.

The Enterprise Grange will conduct a brief service at 7:00 pm, Sunday, at the church.

Yesterday's Kids will conduct a walk-through at 9:15 am, Monday, at the church.

Funeral: A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:00 am, Monday, August 1, 2016, at the church, with Rev. Brett Judkins presiding, followed by military honors.

All visitation and services will be at St. Nicholas Catholic Church.

Burial will follow at St. Joseph Keppler's Cemetery, O'Fallon Township, Ill.
