Winifred "Winnie" (Mastain) Clayton, age 80, of Toledo, Ohio passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 9, 2011 at Lake Park Comfort Care, Sylvania, Ohio.
Winnie was one of three children born to the late Royal and Marian (Teske) Mastain on January 31, 1931, in South Bend, Ind. She graduated from Riley High School and went on to work in the banking loan department, which was rare for a woman at that time. On October 14, 1950 she married Lewis J. Clayton and began a family including two beautiful children. Lewis preceded her in death just two weeks after their 50th wedding anniversary. She was a voracious reader, often times finishing three novels a week. Winnie enjoyed singing in the church choir, traveling all over the world with her family, and doting on her feline family- "Honey" survives her and "Tippy" recently preceded her in death.
She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn (Don) Cheatum, of Dallas, Tex.; son, Rick (Petra) Clayton, of Novi, Mich.; grandchildren, Woody and Timothy Cheatum, and Steven, Chrissie, and Laurie Clayton; sister, Glenda "DeeDee" Doyle; and brother, Richard Mastain.
Friends and family are invited to gather for a short visitation at Wolfersberger Funeral Home, 102 West Washington Street, O'Fallon, Ill. on Sunday, June 12, 2011 beginning at 12:00 Noon.
A graveside service will follow at O'Fallon City Cemetery, at 1:00 pm, where Winnie will be laid to rest next to her husband.
The family suggests contributions to the ASPCA, care of Linda Tiramani, 520 8th Ave, 7th Floor, New York, NY 10018.
