Zelda Mae Woitzel, nee Schneider, 97, of O'Fallon, Ill., died peacefully surrounded by family on Friday, April 2, 2021 at Cedarhurst Senior Living, Shiloh, Ill.

She was born July 10, 1923 in Toledo, Ohio, the daughter of Walter and Lillian, nee Pheils, Schneider and graduated from Waite High School in 1942. She married her husband, Robert 'Bob' S. Woitzel, on December 23, 1943. During the war years, she worked for the U.S. Army at bases in Texas and New Jersey.  In later years she worked for the Probate Court Division of Lucas County, Ohio. She and Bob moved to O'Fallon in 2005.

Zelda was a long-time member of St. John's and Faith Lutheran Churches in Toledo and most recently a member of Faith Lutheran Church in O'Fallon. She always lived a life filled with faith and served in many church roles such as secretary, Cradle Roll manager, and youth group advisor.

She was preceded in death by her parents Walter (Eda Pullen) Schneider and Lillian (Raymond) Koch, her husband, Robert, and her brother, Joseph A. Schneider.

Surviving are a daughter, Paulette (Don) Schafer of O'Fallon; grandsons, Andrew (Jessica) Schafer of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Eric (Megan) Schafer of Lackland AFB, Texas, along with three great-grandsons, Samuel, Memphis and Logan, and great-granddaughter, Claire.

Memorials may be made in honor of Mrs. Woitzel to Faith Lutheran Church, 520 E. US Highway 50, O'Fallon, IL 62269.

Visitation: Friends may call from 10:00 – 11:00 am, Friday, April 16, 2021 at Faith Lutheran Church, O'Fallon

Funeral: Memorial Service will begin at 11:00 am, Friday, April 16, 2021 at the church, with Pastor Candice Wassell officiating. Burial will follow at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, Mo.
